The great software debate?

So, you buy an instrument that uses VST's or samples and you start to look at which voices are worth their money, do you opt for Akai samples or sample packages such as East West or Colossus? You can spend anything from £10 to tens of thousands of pounds on sampled sounds, but which ones are worth their money. We have recently purchased a number of discs and some have been good, and some have been shocking and should have been put through an industrial shredder.
